The Cuchara Heritage Foundation, a 501(c)3, was formed to provide family-friendly facilities to visitors and residents of the Cuchara Valley and enhance the natural beauty of our environment.  There is a lot happening each summer.  The Cuchara Community Center is used for all types of recreational activities.  It is also used for private events and events of our local organizations.  A link to the various area websites in our Valley provide information about local events and activities.  Plan your enjoyment now.

Community Center Floors

The Cuchara Community Center was built in the 1950's and has been used extensively since that date.  The surface of the floors has been enhanced in the past.  Finally, in 2024 and 2025 the floors have been completely resurfaced.

Exterior Lighting

So many of the activities do not end until after dark at the Center. The parking lot extends away from the building and past the playground and around the Chapel.  The exterior lighting has been upgraded, in 2024, in the front of the building and a large light attached to the building beside the playground which provides better lighting throughout the extended parking lots.

Tennis/Pickle Ball Courts

The Mary Britton Tennis Courts were dedicated in the 1960's.  As they weathered, the surfaces were repaired until finally a covering of rubber tiles were installed on the one concrete court and the one asphalt court.  They were maintained for many years until the maintenance was no longer available.  This year, in 2025, the tiles were removed, the courts repaired and resurfaced.  We now have one full time Tennis Court and two Pickle Ball Courts.  The two Pickle Ball Courts can be converted to an additional Tennis Court by removing the Pickle Ball nets.   The courts are now named the Cuchara Community Courts.

Park Flower Bed

When the park across from the Chapel was created, there was a large flower bed installed in the Northeast corner.  Over the years the bed has been neglected and many volunteer plants, including baby Aspens, have made their home there.  In 2025 the bed was disassembled, dug up, all volunteer plants and trees were removed.  The decorative boulders and rocks were rolled away and the ground was reworked.  Fabric cloth was put down and all rocks and boulders rolled back in place.  All native plants and flowers were replanted and a load of river rock was brought in to cover the fabric.
